This September, the 7th annual showcase of artwork by prisoners, offenders, secure patients, and detainees will be displayed at Southbank Centre, in celebration of those often suppressed by society, and the idea that art can enrich anyone’s life, regardless of their circumstances. For the first time, the exhibition will be curated and co-hosted by ex-offenders, who have been recruited and trained by the Koestler Trust, giving visitors the rare opportunity of meeting those who understand from personal experience how art has changed their lives. Prose and poetic works will also be featured in Lights Out by artist Janetka Platun, in which excepts of written pieces appear and disappear in a darkened installation.
