Norman White, 'Helpless Robot'
In 1738 French inventor Jacques de Vaucanson created an automaton duck that flapped its wings and gave the impression that it ate and shat just like its living counterpart. De Vaucanson's defecating duckbot is the starting point for this show of five kinetic sculptures by Canadian artists which aim to continue the debate over how closely mechanics can replicate organic life.
