Time Out says Rate it
The project to photograph 1,000 'ordinary' people is both a clever crowd-pleaser and a comment on our obsessive identification with the models and stars he usually photographs (you can peek into the studio as well as admiring the results). It's an effective point but not a sophisticated one. Elsewhere, though, this is just a huge, uninformative mess. The best stuff - an Elvis impersonator, a quiffed butche, a quartet of photos marked for touch-up, the omnipresent Kate Moss - is lost amid photos of his son, or painfully unerotic erotica, or Polaroids for sale at £500 each. Rankin appears to have spurted his vast store across this space. It's faintly obscene, but look if you must. (NC)
