Set up in 2002, Haunch of Venison is one of the art scene’s biggest names, with branches in London, Zurich, Berlin and New York. From their inaugural exhibition featuring the first female Turner Prize winner Rachel Whiteread, Haunch of Venison has grabbed the spotlight. Housed in a fabulous high-ceilinged Georgian townhouse in the West End it’s famed for hosting super-sized installations and shows by some of art’s biggest names. Currently on their books are Keith Tyson, Bill Viola, Dan Flavin, Wim Wenders and Zhang Huan plus scores of Turner Prize nominees including Nathan Coley, Tony Cragg, Richard Long and Simon Patterson. Initially privately owned, in 2007 Haunch of Venison was bought by auction house Christie’s in a move that left the art world reeling. Despite negative reaction from other art dealers, little has changed at Haunch of Venison HQ and it continues to set the standard for today’s galleries.
