The Tate's major autumn show is centred around Paul Klee's intense abstract compositions, works which earned him a position at the forefront of 20th century art. It's hard to imagine now that his art was seen as dangerous enough for the Swiss government to refuse him citizenship until after his death because of his degenerate paintings, but their colourful inventiveness helped shape the abstract art of his generation.
