The Horniman celebrates the centenary year of the British Ecological Society with a series of family events centred around ecological fieldwork. On Saturday June 15, children can do a spot of surveying at night and set up a moth trap then learn how to record and identify those they catch (£4 per child); on Friday June 21 they can take part in a Bats After Dark survey using bat detectors (£4 per child); and on Saturday July 20 Alien Invaders introduces them to some of the most invasive insect species in the UK before enabling them to take part in a large-scale ladybird count (free, ticketed). See the Horniman website for other activities taking place during the two months.
