There are some brilliant attractions at this adventure theme park within the rolling Berkshire countryside. Over 55 million Lego bricks have been used to create the site, which gives you some idea of the sheer scale of the place.

New attractions for 2013 include Duplo Valley Splash and Play featuring the Drench Towers water play structure, a new Hero Factory, where guests can build their own hero, and Fairy Tale Brook, a toddler-friendly boat ride through a Lego landscape (from May). The Star Wars Miniland Experience features a new gallery of characters from the movies, including Yoda, Wicket, Anakin Skywalker and Princess Leia.

Recent additions include the Lego themed hotel, a 150-room hotel with themed accommodation, and ‘Atlantis Submarine Voyage’, a ride where visitors travel through a one million-litre tank in a slow-moving underwater vehicle to see live sharks and stingrays swimming amongst Lego mermaids.

The old favourites are still a big draw, from Driving School (six- to 13-year-olds can drive whizzy electric cars amid roundabouts, traffic lights and much confusion, and there's also a scaled-down version for tots) to Miniland (London's landmarks in miniature). Other star turns include the twisting Dragon rollercoaster, passing slowing through scenes of a brick-built knights templar before turning into a gentle, twisting roller coaster, and the Imagination Theatre. Be prepared to queue in the school holidays; our advice is to pack activities to keep the kids amused while they're waiting.
