Without memory, would civilisation be doomed? It's just one of the thought-provoking questions posed by the V&A and Sky Arts Ignition's ambitious exhibition, Memory Palace. At its centre is a story by novelist Hari Kunzru – a sort of dystopian tale of a world robbed of its 'global information infrastructure' by a magnetic storm. Post-storm, the new ruling powers decide humans should return to nature and impose a blanket ban on technology, books and any sort of mark-making, effectively wiping out the process of recording history or memory. The futuristic tale has been transformed into an immersive experience by 20 international artists, and visitors are invited to walk through a promenade installation which tells the story through words, images and interactive experiences.
