Museums at Night 2013: Dambusters Night

Free

Commemorating 70 years since the RAF 617 Squadron's Operation Chastise (otherwise known as the Dambusters raid), this event includes access to a temporary display of little-seen artefacts from the 1943 raid on German dams in the Ruhr Valley. The display will be at the museum between May 13 and May 17, though we recommend seeing it as part of this late night event which includes archive film footage of the bouncing bomb, original test equipment used in the 1955 film 'The Dam Busters' and a lecture about the bombs. Dressing up in 1940s costume is encouraged – but if you fail to rustle up a suitable outfit, you can try on a 1940s RAF uniform at the museum and take home a photo of you in your new look.
