Tucked away in Regent Quarter, you’ll encounter the sprawling Spanish hotspot that is Camino. It’s certainly a capacious venue, consisting of two big bar rooms, a restaurant, an outside terrace and sherry haven, Bar Pepito. Furnishings are of simple natural materials (wooden floors and panelling, leather chairs) offset by colourful Spanish posters and, in one bar, a gigantic map of Spain. Even on a Sunday lunchtime the vibe is upbeat, with music playing. Staff are extremely warm, although service on our visit was a little slow at times. The menu provides various options – tapas, platters, a tasting menu and at weekends, tempting brunches with a Spanish twist. We ordered a platter with beautifully tender fried squid, crisp ham croquetas, fried chorizo, crab pâté and marinated peppers: a flavoursome, well-executed choice that perhaps might have benefited from a few less oily options. The wine list offers a good choice by the glass, carafe and bottle (handy if your tastes differ from those of your dining companions). The informal, fun atmosphere makes Camino a great place to come with a group for a lively night out.
