This classy two-floor operation, an imposing space that easily reveals its past as a public library, is divided between a top-notch Indian restaurant, a trendy evenings-only DJ basement and a study-like cocktail bar by the lobby.
They take their cocktails seriously enough to stage mixing classes every month. But if you’re packing plastic (it’s not cheap), you can simply pay others to mix for you from an inviting menu that takes in such signature drinks as a Curry Up! (Plymouth dry and sloe gins, lemon, curry nectar) and a James Dean (Appleton V/X and Matusalem 15-year-old rums, Jerry Thomas bitters, own-made green tea, pear and cinnamon syrup).
A substantial wine list adds appeal, as does impeccable service. Your fellow drinkers will be wealthy but not ostentatiously so.
