Legend says that Victorian military man David Fawcett died in an upstairs room of this building, the former Camden Arms. The colonel was apparently a fan of gin, and his predilection is honoured here with a sixteen-strong gin list, which includes the not-often-seen Old Tom.
New owners have substantially refitted the ground-floor bar and first-floor function room, and there's a neat garden at the back and several tables outside the front.
Bar food was dependable if unremarkable when we stopped by, and this extended to the rest of the drinks list – of four real ales, one had run out, and the most exciting beer from the other pumps was Meantime's London Pale Ale. We hear now though that owners have upped the offer a bit with beers from the likes of Truman's and Brewdog.
The space fills up in the evenings with a more presentable sort of Camden crowd - this is definitely not the Good Mixer.
