Paying homage to the near-bankrupt American city in name alone, this long-established urban cocktail mecca near Seven Dials is part Prague metro in appearance (dig those retro reversed-out spots!) and part cool dive, although it’s not for the claustrophobic.
Lovers and intimate friends whisper or cackle in alcoves, while sassy staff serve contemporary drinks from a long bar. Mixes range considerably in price and strength. The 16 standards show a fruity touch – the King Kong with four rums and four tropical juices, the Black Forest Mule with dark rum, black-cherry purée and framboise eau de vie – while the super-premium list includes an Earlham Street made with rum, absinthe and strawberries. Cusqueña, Viru and Asahi are among the beers, standard-priced goujons, skewers and focaccie among the bites.
