It’s been a fair few years since Dick Bradsell was behind the counter here, but his legacy lives on in the shape of the fine modern cocktails: the Rose Petal martini (Bombay Sapphire with Lanique rose liqueur, lychee juice and Peychaud bitters), for example, or the Elderflower Fizz (elderflower cordial, lemon juice, champagne).
The ‘London contemporary classics’ offer the best in British mixes from recent times, such as Jason Fendick’s Quiet Storm (Ketel One, guava, lychee and pineapple juices, coconut cream and lime); there are also classics from bygone eras, among them the Bloodhound (Plymouth gin, Noilly Prat, raspberries and maraschino cherries).
Mixing and service are fittingly old-school, and the environment – a sun-catching front terrace, a long bar counter and wide, candlelit main seating area at the back – is a pleasing one.
