An oasis of contemporary bar culture in a locality dotted with wine bars and traditional pubs, Mustard is of its own. It stands off the main street, a seemingly small, streamlined pavilion that turns out to be much larger inside.
Red predominates in a space surrounded by low, padded benches, while images of the Far East line a raised lounge area. A second, downstairs bar handles the overflow on clubbier nights.
Cocktails include a Mustard Bison of Smirnoff, Chambord, crème de cassis and raspberries; a Mustard Kiwi makes use of vodka and fresh fruit. Absolut and Beefeater feature in the seven martinis; a handful of them are sold at cut rates during the nightly happy hour.
Wines include a £41.50 Laroche Chablis and a Castillo de Clavijo Rioja (£30.50); food is tarted-up comfort cooking (burgers, sharing platters), with a curry of the day and other Indian dishes added to the mix.
