There aren’t many pubs named after the landlord, but old Mr Quinn can still be seen working around the bar at this conspicuous yellow and blue establishment on the corner of Kentish Town Road. It’s in dire need of some refurbishment, but it’s spacious, there’s an appealing garden out back, and the selection of beers is excellent. Greene King takes the lead on the handpumps; Guinness is a point of pride (it’s an Irish pub after all) and tap beers on our visit included Mort Subite kriek lambic. There are more Belgian fruit beers in the fridge, including mango, myrtle and raspberry flavours, plus a range of first-class German varieties rarely seen in London. These alone make this family-run spot worth a visit, though football screenings keep locals coming back, too, and the food is decent. We’d hate to see it fitted out with glittery floral wallpaper and fringed lampshades, but the bench seats are downright shabby.
