Neil Thomson’s photographs of the Social’s tenth birthday celebrations sum up this most successful of music bars. Featured party acts Doves, Saint Etienne and the Magic Numbers link the Social with Heavenly Recordings, the indie label with whom its roots lie.
More than a decade in, and the mission remains the same: to provide proper cocktails, decent global beers, awesome jukebox tunes, solid DJ bookings and prole grub for the masses. Five booths accommodate music-savvy thirtysomethings munching square pies and fish-finger salads.
Cocktails (£8) also carry a musical theme: Chambord, peach purée, fresh lime and ginger beer introduce themselves in Sympathy for the Devil. Among the draught beer offerings are Amstel and Sagres; Heineken and Estrella are available by the bottle.
