One of the most likeable London arrivals of recent years, this bright, handsome wine bar and restaurant takes food and drink seriously yet without pretension. The speciality is ‘natural’ wines, made with organic and biodynamically grown grape varieties or without added sulphur, sugar or acid.
The unstuffy list is dominated by French regions, augmented by a short Italian section and a ‘token Spanish’ red and white; the excellent staff are more than able to point you in the right direction if you ask for advice.
The food, too, is terrific: a tapas-style selection of French bar snacks, charcuterie and seafood, plus plats du jour of the pot-roasted quail or brandade de morue variety. It’s bigger than it looks, spread over the ground floor, the lower ground floor and a surprisingly airy, pleasant basement, but you’ll still probably need to book – it’s a popular place, and with very good reason.
