This big, black-fronted barn of a community pub hides a large, friendly interior brimming with a pop sensibility: Keith Moon (in a target T-shirt) peers down from a lookalike portrait painting on to a youthful crowd spread over sofas and chairs while Jarvis Cocker does the playlists.
The beer range is equally striking: Tiger, Adnams, Mac’s Gold, Grasshopper and B Bulldog all greet the spoiled-for-choice first-time visitor. Food is served all day and is just the cheaper side of expensive – chicken tagine for £9.50, burgers for a little less, good old fish-finger sandwiches further down the scale. If conversation dries up, play ‘spot the album’ from the vinyl backdrop on one wall.
