  • I do not know how anyone could say that the staff are not friendly, I told the guy behind the bar that I brewed ale and he took me and my mate down to the cellar to try some of their new beers.

  • Under new management (horrible phrase, but true). We are very friendly, always a warm welcome, and the beers are stupendously good. But don't take my word for it - come and try for yourself.

  • Paul I have visited the pub on numerous occasions but I am not a local, I think you may have been drinking at another pub because I have only ever received the warmest of welcomes, and been made to feel (by the staff inparticular) very included in conversations, I think that whatever pub you go to there may be one or two annoying drunks but I would have to say that the staff have dealt with it very well. I suggest that you give it another go. I would say that The pub fully deserves the five star review!

  • An odd place set off the beaten track. I'll admit I haven't been there for a few years but I'm not sure it deserves it's repeat performance on "best ale pubs". Yes the selection is fantastic but the atmosphere not so much. One man's "garrulous locals" is another man's "annoying drunks", so I guess it's a matter of taste, but like Paul I was also made to feel very much an outsider who doesn't belong. The bullet hole in the window didn't help much either (although I imagine that's been fixed now)

  • Wonderful array of ales which are nicely kept, but certainly not the warmest welcome in London - and if you can get a please or thank you off the staff, then you're a better man than I. Heavily focused towards their locals, which I applaud, but a smile and a "Hello" to a newcomer cost nothing and would make for a friendlier pub.
