The White Horse attracts an adult, professional but as-yet-unnested clientele happy to enjoy the generous opening hours. It’s all slightly clubby yet laid-back: the dangling disco balls are embellished with sunflower petals, there are big candles and flowers on each table, the day’s papers rest on the bar counter (tabloids, too – it’s a mixed crowd), and there are sofas settled around a TV in one corner.
The DJ decks are put to good use several nights a week: funk plays a big role, but you might catch everything from hip hop to house emanating from the speakers. Beers include a couple of ales (Deuchars IPA, seasonal guests); food includes the likes of pan-fried salmon with Asian greens, posh steak sandwiches and, on weekends, breakfasts. Boys, don’t trip over the step in the toilets as you take in the bizarre S&M horse mural.
