This Tudor building located right on the river offers Young's ales, well-executed classic pub food and a lively atmosphere.
Right on the river, this capacious barn of a bar makes best use of its prime location. It’s a Young’s pub, so it’s well looked after, providing the usual range of ales from the brewery stable, as well as reliably satisfying steak pies and Sunday roasts.
What really brings in the punters, though, is the chance to sink into a chesterfield by the fire, or find a spot to stand on the river-view first-floor veranda, down a pint and talk about the rugby match that’s just played out on the big screen.
On Boat Race day, the towpath resembles Trafalgar Square on New Year’s Eve, crowds packed around a hog roast and staff working like stevedores. On the other 364 days of the year, it’s busy but civilised, the dark-wood interior lending a slight sense of grandeur.

I go here all the time, the staff are great, they're really friendly, it's a great place to watch sport & in the summer sitting on the veranda by river is wonderful!....oh & they do a yummy Sunday lunch too! :-)
The service is terrible, it feels like the staff actively ignore customers at the bar. Waited a long time to be served on many occasions. The food is bland and a Sunday roast I had was cold. The location and decor however is what saves it. Needs new staff and this would be one of the best bars in Barnes.
Having ordered and waited for our food for 1 hour 15mins we left with out eating. This was a wednesday 22/1 lunch time . Of the 75 odd covers there were only 15 of us in the restaurant. However there was some sort of corporate gig going on as people were walking in and getting served in minutes where as the rest of us were just ignored and left their starving. Everyone was complaining but this made no difference. Only two serving staff and one of them disappeared after we had complained. Their attitude needs to change and realise that people are not going to just sit there for hours waiting for them to serve food. When asked why they did not explain when we ordered that there would be a long wait it appeared that the staff had not even thought about doing that. Dreadful will never go again, I have better things to do with my life.
It’s great for sitting outside. But the service is really bad. No one cares. People regularly sit with their own food on the benches outside next to the river, because food takes ages. I waited more than an hour for a portion of fries, on a normal day, when it wasn’t really that busy. Ordering drinks can take 15 -20 minutes, the bar staff simply ignores you, 3 people stand behind the bar chatting while 1 poor soul tries to serve 10 people at once. This unfortunately has happened to us several times, even on days where it isn’t busy. After waiting for ages, some girl took my order, I had ordered 1 pint of beer, she came back with a half pint glass, when I said I wanted a pint, she complained to me! That they had run out of glasses. Tables were full of empty glasses, but no one bothered to collect them. Than a colleague gave her a glass, she poured the half pint of beer in the pint glass, and put it in front of me. When I asked her to fill the glass properly, and she asked me “If I want to make her life difficult?” Previously I had asked to reserve a table for 4 people to watch a rugby game; first I was told they only reserve tables for 6 or more people. After 2 more friends wanted to join, I called back, saying that we will be 6, and if I can reserve a table now. Suddenly the rule had changed, and they don’t reserve tables at all. It’s first come first serve. We arrived early just to find ALL the tables upstairs had been reserved or other people. Even the tables for 4 people had reserved signs on them. It’s a shame, it’s a great pub, with an unbeatable location, and we still go occasionally when the weather is really nice. But I have to say 4 out of 5 times, we had negative experiences with the staff.
£3.10 for a glass of lemonade! Nice looking place but these prices certainly dont favour the designated driver
Great place to enjoy the river view with friends and a glass of wine. But the food is terrible. I ordered a mediterranain pita expecting a nice selection of at least three vegetables. It was filled ONLY with grilled peppers. £4.50.
