This is my favourite place to party Dalston. It used to be a bit too trendy, but the crowd has got older over the past couple of years and the staff are so friendly. The bouncers are kind and make you feel safe, the music is varied and wicked, the prices are reasonable and it has that great NYC basement bar feel.

It’s easy to think of the Alibi as the naughty kid brother to the Dalston Superstore just up the street. While the Superstore beckons in punters with a large, open storefront and promises of cocktails and comfort-cooking, the Alibi offers little hint of what lies within, and walking down the thin staircase to the basement for the first time can be a little unnerving.
Still, don’t be shy: they’re a friendly bunch down there, if dauntingly hip. The bar’s run by the Real Gold ‘creative collective’ (their description), which stages an edgy mix of DJ nights throughout the week. Drinks aren’t anything special, but this is a good spot regardless.
