I had not been to this pub for years, it was one of my favourite London Real Ale pubs and it use to have a glamorous Jewish land lady who ruled with a rod of iron. I visited recently and was disappointed. It was very crowded and very noisy. It use to be an old boys pub but now has a much younger, trendier and largely foreign crowd. It was difficult to get a drink because people insist on sitting at the very short bar despite it being packed, although a fair selection beers was on offer the service was poor as the bar staff seem to favour the 'regulars' sitting at the bar over those queuing the longest and the famous Sunday dinners are no longer available. It is really sad when a pub with such happy memories changes, I guess it is all part of the 'gentrification’ of Brick Lane but I will not be going back.

Now being a northerner by heart born and bred in Yorkshire - I'm very particular about my boozers, and hate all these so called posh managed houses in favour of a traditional good old pub, and The Pride of Spittalfields hasn't let me down. Proper ale, proper bar, no bells or whistles, must a good old fashioned East End boozed. Top marks from me - now get me a brick lane curry!!

Went in last week after a 2 year gap and pub has gone far down hill. Stood patiently waiting at the bar trying to get served for 15 minutes and the 2 women bar staff were like rabbits in headlights just kept serving whoever came in front of them. Bear in mind the bar is only 6 foot wide and you can guess the frustration. Finally spoke up when a customer replaced someone who had been served and was served immediately and saw that I was waiting but got told off by the bar staff who said how could they know who was next! I pointed out that it was their job? Really small pub and so loud you can't have a conversation or hear yourself speak. We used to always go here pre curry but never again..

I went here and 2 friends were sexually harassed and then assaulted by a 'regular'. The landlady accused them of lying, said they should just accept this treatment anyway and threw us out of the pub. I urge any women not to go here, it is not a safe environment even if you're surrounded by people you know.

great pub! missing Sunday roast dinners ,they was the best in all east London

The Caxton Curry Club

This is a good old fashioned drinkers pub with a good range of real ales, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. You only have to look at the crowd outside to realise what a popular place it is. An excellent precursor to a Brick Lane curry!

Simply a pub. No poncing around, good beer, real people. What more could you want?

One of the best pubs in Londoan and a bastion of a great East end pub in the heart of trendy shoreditch ... Get a propper pint of ale and say hello to the fat pub cat that likes to sit on your lap.
