  • Clerkenwell Green

    Historically a centre of radicalism, Clerkenwell Green is where Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, better known as Lenin, produced 16 issues of Iskra (The Spark) from a tiny office at 37a (now the Marx Memorial Library). It's where in August 2004 graffiti artist Banksy unveiled his six-metre bronze statue of Lady Justice in G-string, suspenders and thigh boots.     Borough

    London's most perfectly filmic street, Stoney Street runs beside the cast-iron framework of Borough Market and under the high brick arches of the railway as it curves in to London Bridge. It's a setting for Orson Welles to step out of the shadows, for Michael Caine to draw on a smoke under a street light, or for Bob Hoskins to flatfoot it round a corner pursued by goonish thugs. It's also a fine place for a piss-up with four good venues within 200 metres, followed by a short walk to what we consider to be one of the very best pubs in town, the Royal Oak.
