Literary nights
Book Slam
Getting into the literary live music monthly Book Slam used to be a case of camping out for hours or organising a ticket in advance. Realising that they were on to something, prize-winning author and poet Patrick Neate and Everything But The Girl’s Ben Watt are moving house from Cherry Jam to Neighbourhood next week. The ticket price is still just a fiver, and for their first night at the new venue, they’ve got Booker Prize-winning DBC Pierre, crucial London hip hop MC Plan B and American slam poet Nafeesa. Pretty much unmissable.
Diary date Nov 30, 7.30pm-late, £5.
Neighbourhood, 12 Acklam Rd, W10 (www.bookslam.com) Westbourne Park tube.
Feature continues
B Club at Great Eastern Hotel‘A bi-monthly bonding of brains and beautiful people, over books, bands and bellinis’ is how they aptly describe this swanky soirée. Reading the chosen book is entirely optional; book bingo, spoken word, readings, acoustic sets, DJs and a book swap make it more than an incoherent argument over a warm pint.
Diary date Jan 12 or 19 (tbc), 8pm-late, free.
B Club, Great Eastern Hotel, 40 Liverpool St, EC2 (www.thebclub.co.uk) Liverpool St tube/rail.
The First Tuesday Poetry Club
This small poetry club is about to celebrate its first anniversary, and has just had to move to a larger room at ace Clerkenwell boozer The Three Kings.
Diary date Dec 3, 6.30pm-late, free.
First Tuesday Poetry Club, The Three Kings, 7 Clerkenwell Close, EC1 (020 7253 0483) Farringdon tube/rail.
Poejazzi
The Vibe Bar is hugely popular and is crammed each Sunday with Brick Lane revellers, but wind your way to the Red Room at the back for a bohemian-cool night of original poets, upcoming singers, and, to seal off the night, a honking three-piece jazz band. The next one sees MC and poet Joshua Idehen, plus poets Musa Okwonga, Inua Williams, Tamsin Kendrick and more.
Diary date Sun, 6pm-11.30pm, £8.
Poejazzi, The Vibe Bar, 91-95 Brick Lane, E1 (020 7247 3479) Liverpool St tube/rail.
