Cellar Gascon
Attached to the much-fêted Club Gascon restaurant, this bar is popular with well-dressed bankers and lawyers who come here to guzzle pre-dinner drinks from the south-west of France. The restrained, competent service and an outstanding wine list make this a real destination, as do the £20 monthly tutored wine tastings.
Cellar Gascon, 59 West Smithfield, EC1A 9DS (020 7600 7561/020 7796 0600) Barbican tube or Farringdon tube/rail.
Dion Canary Wharf
This striking warehouse-space Champagne bar has a huge list strong on rosé – there are 20 on the list including the connoisseur’s fave, Billecart-Salmon.
Dion, Port East Building, West India Quay, Hertsmere Rd, E14 4AF (020 7987 0001) West India Key DLR.
Feature continues
Eyre Brothers
A sleek Iberian restaurant in Shoreditch with a list of well-chosen (mostly) Iberian wines. We like the food and wine, but be warned that the service can be a bit slack.
Eyre Brothers, 70 Leonard St, EC2A 4QX (020 7613 5346) Old St tube/rail.
Gaucho Canary
The place for a prime steak of Argentinian beef in Canary Wharf, but also an ideal location for quaffing some of its best wines.
Gaucho Canary, 29 Westferry Circus, Canary Riverside, E14 8RR (020 7987 9494) Canary Wharf tube/DLR.
Jamies Canary Wharf
The Jamies chain of wine bars covers the middle ground of fair prices and decent wines served with good-value food. This Canary Wharf branch is one of many.
Jamies Canary Wharf, 28 Westferry Circus, E14 8RR (020 7536 2861) Canary Wharf tube/DLR.
The Narrow
Gordon Ramsay’s first
gastropub and, as far as we’re concerned, still the best, not least
because of the exemplary wine list.
The Narrow, 44
Narrow St, E14 8DQ (020 7592 7950) Limehouse DLR/rail.
Plateau
Run by D&D London (formerly called Conran Restaurants), this is one of the best in the group. Expect crisp design, sharp service and a wine list that’s well matched to the ambitious cooking.
Plateau, 4th floor, Canada Place, Canada Square, E14 5ER (020 7715 7100) Canary Wharf tube/DLR.
Wapping Food
This restaurant is inside a disused industrial space, but also worthy of note is the 100-strong Australian wine list.
Wapping Food, Wapping Hydraulic Power Station, Wapping Wall, E1W 3SG (020 7680 2080) Shadwell DLR.

Terriors on william IV Street, has the most interesting and exciting wine list in London, specialising in Natural organic biodynamic wines.
shh... Negozio is tiny.... please can we not keep it a secret?
Agree with ajs, The Kensington Wine Rooms is great, and already a favourite after only 2 or 3 weeks! It´s on Kensington Church Street, not High Street. Check out the enomatic wine dispensers. Really reasonable prices, both on the wines and the menu. I also love Negozio
Completely agree with J - the wine at Gordons is shocking.
You're much better off trying a new place on Kensington High Street (towards the Notting Hill End) - Kensington Wine Rooms. Loads of excellent wines by the glass & great atmosphere, too.
Whilst it has the atmosphere yes - the wine at Gordons is a disgrace for what it costs. Its just plain bad wine at high prices. I've given it the benefit of the doubt many times - but I can honestly say the wine there is truly awful - a crying shame in my view.
