The day of reckoning is almost here. Amid all the economic doom and gloom, the continued worries over various shambolic wars and the ever-present spectre of climate change there is one glimmer of hope – that Barack Obama will become the next US President. If the polls are anything to go by, the White House looks well within his grasp but the US electorate are a funny old bunch and nobody knows which way it will go. If you want to watch history in the making, here’s our pick of the places showing all the action through the night of Tue Nov 4.
The East Room Shoreditch’s trendy East Room hosts its Red Eye Election Party beginning at 9pm and running until 9am the next morning. Tickets are pricey at a whopping £125 each, but include food, drinks, coffee and pancakes and door prizes: a rifle and bible for Republican attendees and food stamps and tax bills for Democrats. Tickets are limited and allocated to 100 for each political party, with 49 for undecided neutrals. One for the truly hardcore.

Chicago Rib Shack With a 24- hour license, informal dress code, extensive food and drink menu and two large screens with surround sound, Chicago Rib Shack's Election party lasts from 8pm until 6:30am the next morning. A late supper consisting of traditional BBQ and early morning muffin, bagel and doughnut breakfast is included. Tickets are priced at £25 a head and also includes an election celebration pack.

Planet Hollywood Don your election night finest, apply some ‘pitbull’ lipstick and join in the madness at this super-kitsch chain. The screening kicks off at 11pm, running through the night until 5am. Customers can call in advance to book a table or watch the live action from the bar.

Yates's Wine Bar Boasting to be the biggest US election night party in London, Yates's promises food and snack buffets throughout the night and £10 worth of free drinks included with every ticket. Standard tickets price out at £35 a head with VIP status marked up at £100 per ticket. Tickets are limited and must be purchased in advance.

The American Bar at the Stafford HotelA big-screen television in the bar will broadcast election results all through the night and food will be available from a special menu put together for the occasion. There’s no tickets, cover charge or reservations needed – their only, rather quaint, requirement is gents wear jackets.
