HorseshoeThis big corner bar just off the High Street has quickly found favour among the Hampstead set, exuding the kind of confidence that comes from being well thought out and well run. Huge windows and white painted brickwork create a light, airy space in which to enjoy the alluring food – confit of duck with red cabbage, perhaps, or grilled sardines – washed down with something from the extensive wine list. Adnams plus guest ales are pumped from a bar that is artfully lit by a quartet of lights shrouded in big geometric shades. Bonus points too for the microbrewery housed in the cellar – a bit of a surprise in the heart of Hampstead. On our trans-seasonal visit, winter brews complemented a fragrant McL Summer Ale. The Horseshoe’s clean, modern aesthetic may veer too close to Ikea for some, but they should like the quirky tables shaped from old floorboards. Source: Time Out Bars, Pubs & Clubs Guide 2008
