Cocoon
Professional and imaginative, Cocoon is underused as the holding bar for the somewhat space-age first-floor restaurant of the same name. Dinky bar stools revolve around a circular bar counter at the far end. The restaurant being oriental, there are plenty of Japanese drinks on the sumptuous menu: eight types of shochu and a dozen sakés. Beer is bottled Asahi and Kirin Ichiban. The four-dozen cocktails (£8-£9) are either contemporary or classic, or have an oriental twist, such as the Akari of fresh Jonagold apple and fragrant lychee shaken with saké and grapes, or the Japanese Mule of fresh ginger, coriander and Imo-shochu. Fresh ingredients (berries, rhubarb, watermelon) and high-end spirit bases are used throughout.
