Tucked down a side street, the Pride steadily walks its time-honoured path, treating decks and the £20 pub roast as figments of a fetid imagination. Excellently kept real ale (Fuller's Pride and ESB, Brewers Gold) is the focus, with a bottle of Dubonnet telling the rest of the story. All around are archive photos and maroon upholstered seating that clashes magnificently with the bright red carpet. And as if that wasn't enough suburban 1980s, our visit also saw a punter strike up 'Ebony and Ivory' on the piano. The clientele remains a jolly blend of Japanese hipsters and old codgers. Smokers now avail themselves of the two tables outside - that aside, nothing changes.
