Match Bar
As original as ever, even though they’re now into a second decade, London’s Match bars celebrate the craft of the bartender. Dale DeGroff oversees the annual drinks menu, a selection ranging from his authentic concoctions (£6.50-£7), such as a grapefruit julep (Wyborowa, grapefruit, lime, pomegranate, drizzled with honey), to those conceived by his contemporary counterparts here in recent years (Tom Ward’s Kamomilla Fizz, perhaps, made from Wyborowa and camomile syrup with fresh lemon and cucumber). Opening in Geneva for the skiing season, the Match group still runs the three London branches, this West End one being a narrow but not squeezed space. Two rows of seating, one raised, connect a convivial front area to the bar, suiting the sharing of bowls of punch (£12), noodles and curries that Match encourages.
