This popular local is an architectural gem, with its high, rust-coloured ceilings, Victorian wood panels, curved front windows, stunning cut-glass lamps, beautiful etched mirrors and ceiling fans. Like the nearby Charles Lamb and the Duke of Edinburgh, the Island Queen has a strong local following, with the popular Tuesday-night quiz and pub grub like fish finger sandwiches (and more elaborate fare). The curved wooden bar is a real feature; the taps dispense a good pick of continental beers - Leffe Blonde, Küppers Kölsch, Paulaner München, Franziskaner Weissbier and Früli - and British stuff like London Pride, Addlestones and Weston's cider. Duvel, Chimay White, Peroni, Pacifico Clara and Bierra Moretti are available by the bottle; the wine list tends towards the New World.
