Lonsdale
Dick Bradsell’s old establishment is back in contention with the launch of a fabulously original cocktail menu in spring 2007. Simple in concept, it traces the history of the London cocktail, from the mojito conceived in Cuba in 1586, the Sours of the 1700s, the Sangarees of the Antilles, the Flips of the 1860s, the Bucks of the 1920s and contemporary classics. It’s a labour of love, a work of art, and it provides meticulously sourced concoctions (£6-£7.50) at fair prices. In truth, Lonsdale was getting as jaded as the Prague Metro-style decor around its bar counter, and the expansive back area was often quiet. A Westbourne Sour (Miller’s Westbourne Strength gin, fresh raspberry, gently frothed) should put the whizz back in W11.
