This low-rent homage to Bavaria looks like it was cobbled together yesterday with the contents of someone’s student flat (unpolished pale wood panels, a cheap Ikea lamp, rickety bench seating). Though expense was definitely spared on the decor, there’s enough within this basement to keep the City boys coming back for more. Dirndl-wearing damsels escort you to your table, smile obligingly and happily talk you through the menu’s beer options. And beer is, of course, the whole point: Paulaner, Erdinger, Löwenbräu, Warsteiner and Küppers Kölsch are among the offerings. Food is less spectacular (goulash and endless variations of sausage), but this isn’t somewhere you come to wine and dine. It’s a place to gather a crowd of your most annoying work colleagues together for loud banter, big-screen sports and the comedy value of ordering a ‘Porno half meter’ of schnapps shots.
