Walk through the lobby of the Lanesborough Hotel to the Library and you are handed a book by staff in Casablanca attire. Within it you’ll find, as you survey the towering fresh flowers and roaring fire of the elegant surroundings, spells. In the house champagne cocktail (£13.50), Aperol works with the orange juice and Limoncello. Fresh garlic, cognac and ginger beer combine in a Garlic Affair (£12.50). Wokka saké, fresh mint and strawberry purée mingle in the house martini (£12.50). The collection of vintage armagnacs and cognacs is legendary. Of the dozen wines, all, including a Puligny-Montrachet La Garenne Larue (£19/£76), come by the glass. It’s magic at a price – £19 for spicy lobster nachos – but magic none the same.
