Cooper's Arms
From the solid red wood bar counter to the barometers and moose’s head on the wall, there’s a reassuring air of age and experience about this place. Young’s and Bombardier are the well-kept ales, and a commendable selection of French wines are sold by the glass. A laid-back thirty-something crowd also seem to appreciate the generous portions of solid, unpretentious fare on offer, ranging from succulent burger staples to beautifully prepared spinach and ricotta ravioli or creamy baked camembert with rosemary and garlic. It’s a pleasantly calm, unhurried sort of place, with light streaming through the big windows, a contented hum of chat and, thankfully, no loud background music to disturb the tranquility.
