Indo
Nestled among nondescript convenience stores and wholesalers, Indo is a sanctuary of battered boho charm away from the hustle and bustle of Whitechapel Road. The wallpaper is a sickly green and yellow, but there’s a homely living-room vibe about the place, aided by a random scatter of African and South American junk and the laid-back indie soundtrack. Drainpipe jean-clad young regulars occupy the wooden tables and chairs. Draught beers include San Miguel, Red Stripe and Paulaner wheat beer, as well as London Pride, while the bar snacks menu is heavy on burgers and ciabatta sandwiches. If you’re in for the long haul, try to bag one of the leather sofas at the front in time to see the evening sun pour through the stained glass-edged windows. A rare treat.
