Absolut IceBar/Below Zero
A joint venture between Absolut Vodka and Ice Hotel, IceBar is effectively a giant walk-in freezer; a little piece of Swedish Lapland that’s magical in a Narnia-for-grown-ups kind of way; an effect that wears off in direct correlation to how long it takes for the chill to take hold. After paying a £12-£15 ‘entry’ fee (which includes one drink), you don a thermal poncho and gloves and enter the frozen realm. It’s a constant -5°C, so everything (bar, walls, tables, glasses) is made of crystal clear ice. Non-vodka drinkers will go thirsty – it’s Absolut or nothing, with about 20 flavours to choose from or a nice range of vodka-based cocktails. The house Absolut IceBar London, with Absolut Vanilla, blackberry liqueur, cinnamon syrup and apple juice was delicious. Thaw out next door at the ambiently temperatured Below Zero, which has a wider choice of drinks and a comprehensive snack menu.
