The unabashedly over-the-top decor in the Vine is not to all tastes. Though it looks unremarkable enough from the road, the maroon-painted interior is unexpectedly opulent: lavish hothouse flower arrangements, chandeliers and baroque gilt frames. Yet there's substance behind the style: a respectable range of drinks on tap (Leffe, Hoegaarden, Bombardier, Addlestones cider) and delightfully friendly staff, quick to offer a sample of cider as we dithered by the bar. Out in the front are picnic tables; out in the back, locals convene in the generously-proportioned beer garden.
