This is one of Wimbledon village's most stylish gastropubs, with quality food served in either the slouchy minimal front area or the swish, contemporary restaurant section at the rear. The service is friendly, appealing to the mixed-age clientele who come for casual dining. The main bar area has a high ceiling and bare-brick walls decorated with a massive piece of modern art, which can be admired by candlelight from the battered leather sofas. There are a few decent light beers, among them Leffe, Peroni and Kronenbourg Blanc, but the 40-strong wine list is better: an eclectic mix, running from a Montepulciano Abruzzo (£12.70) to a Château Batailley 1999, Grand Cru Classé, Pauillac (£60).
