Abbey Tavern
The Abbey Tavern has managed to carve out quite a niche for itself, by dint of its regular live music events and competent gastropub fare. Sunday’s acoustic music sessions are particularly lively, with enthusiastic punters clambering on the tables to dance, and roaring their appreciation of the acts. The decor mixes industrial chic (exposed silver pipes and stripped-down brickwork) with more mellow touches (red leather banquettes to lounge on, soft globe lights hanging from the ceiling). An excellent range of bottled Belgian beers, including Liefmans, Chimay and Kwak, supplement the standard on-tap lagers. In summer, the sprawling, multi-level outdoor area is a suntrap, and the perfect spot to linger over a leisurely weekend brunch (we’d highly recommend the eggs benedict).
