Albert
The minor refurb slated for 2007 shouldn’t alter the Albert. You can’t tamper with tradition, not in a place like this. Steeped in parliamentary lore, with a grand wooden staircase lined with portraits of past prime ministers that leads to a carvery containing a division bell, the Albert is the perfect example of pub design from the days of empire. Carved wood and frosted glass abound, embellishing a spacious interior always busy with tourists, able to pay in dollars or euros. Draught Fuller’s London Pride, Greene King IPA, Courage Directors and Bombardier provide a suitably British pint to accompany the pies and similar food also on offer. Kids will be pleased with the sticky puddings – and a room to get messy in.
