Golden Eagle
The Eagle wears its heart on its sleeve. This is a vintage London boozer, down to the rickety bar stools and beer-soaked upright piano in the corner. The ivories are covered by a dust sheet except on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings, when everyone joins in an old-fashioned pub singalong. The public bar is tiny – just a small back room and a handful of bar stools along the window – but you can swig Tetley’s, London Pride, Guinness and a rotating selection of ales from the Cornish St Austell Brewery while you belt out a few choruses of ‘Moon River’. Come here for a reminder of what pubs were like before gastropub fever swept through town.
