Westminster Arms
Attached to Storey’s Wine Bar downstairs, the traditional Westminster Arms squeezes tourists and sundry parliamentary staff into an intimate space of dark wood and busy chatter. Ales on the prominent bar counter include Thwaites Lancaster Bomber, Fuller’s London Pride, Abbot, Young’s and Adnams Bitter and Broadside. Beck’s by the bottle is probably the best option for lager drinkers. There are wines too, starting from the house Marquis de Lassine. Sustenance comes in the form of belly-filling mains of beef lasagne and traditional fish and chips. It’s not all staid – for some bizarre reason there’s a framed display of violins and sheet music for Viennese waltzes, a decorative touch that the long-established French barman is delighted to keep a mystery.
