• King Charles I

  • The King Charles is frequented by loyal (mainly male) regulars who are pleased as punch to partake of great beers in such a conspiratorial setting. Thwaites Original, Bishops Tipple, Deuchars IPA and a global range of bottled beers (Baltika, Deus, even Stiegl, rarely seen outside its native Salzburg) baffle the first-time visitor, as might the quirky decor touches: an old bar billiards table, unusual advertising for the Leu Family Tattoo Parlour, ethnic figures and carnival masks. If there was a pianist, he would stop as you walked in; instead, Johnny Cash sings from a Heritage Selection jukebox. To help the drinking along, you can phone for food from nearby takeaways.
