London's best review, food and drink news
This corner pub, just off the main Kensington drag of Church Street, has a much lovelier, more clandestine feel than at first suggested by the two sides of opaque glass windows. Inside, the combination of drawing room red walls and dark wood help to tame the daylight to cosy effect. A snug back corner, adorned with historic front pages from the Evening Standard and Daily Mail (the papers' offices are just down the road) provides the best spot of all to enjoy the short if affordable wine list (a trademark of a Nicholson's house) and the beer and fish and chips (a house speciality). London Pride is on duty, with (on our visit) Timothy Taylor guesting.
