London's best review, food and drink news
Sleek and determinedly stylish, Village East takes itself seriously in the best possible way. The 'Scandinavia meets New York' interior - all exposed piping, crisp wood and curvaceous lines - is impeccably laid out, with a canteen, restaurant, two lively bar areas and a private dining room to choose from. Music is on the right side of cutting edge and a weekend late licence ensures the crowd at the bar is as much SE1 hipster as it is after-work media clone. There are 18 house cocktails, draught beers include Staropramen and Guinness, and the wine list offers plenty of choice by the glass. The food (lunchtime sandwiches and salads, swanky meat and fish mains) is a cut above too.
