London's best review, food and drink news
Slightly adrift from the main hubs of Stokey and Newington Green, this corner pub still capably serves the more affluent folk of those zones. A stripped wood panelled bar leads round to a sunken lounge, with battered sofas, and open fires during the cold winter months. Despite the relaxed air, there are some serious drinking options on offer, on tap Harveys, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Guinness as well as the obligatory Staropramen and Hoegaarden. Chalked up on the board is a fine wine list, and the cocktails include a notorious bloody mary (£3.95) held in a jug at the bar. Food is well portioned, and upmarket English breakfasts are a popular choice. DJs entertain a youngish crowd at the weekends when jeans are of the skinny variety.
