Settle Inn
In gusty weather, the attentive bar staff of the Settle Inn spend half their time dashing over to slam shut the pub’s corner door: this one-room boozer is as welcoming as the Archway Road is inhospitable, and the cosiness must be kept in at all costs. The maroon and cream decor is tasteful, but avoids crossing into identikit gastropub territory through the inclusion of random prints and some quirky, throne-like seating. The ramshackle kitchen out back serves delicious Thai food from £5.50 for a main course, and the lone chef was rushed off his feet when we visited on a Tuesday. The energy from our huge starter platter (£9.50) came in handy when the pub quiz required us, literally, to vote with our feet to answer questions. The bar serves the usual lager suspects plus ales like Flowers IPA.
